1. Krate should get 5 stars on the packaging. It was well packaged and survived the UPS journey well.
2. The bearing system is solid and spins freely.
3. It is designed for easy takedown and transport without tools.
4. The overall size is good.
However, after assembly, I am concerned about quality, and it has not even left my garage to sit on my range yet.
1. This has the absolute worst paint or coating job I have bought on a target system to date. In SPITE of being soundly packaged, there are black flecks of all sizes in the box where it flecked off. There's hardly one of the 11 assembled pieces that didn’t have significant marring or flaking straight out of the box. When I tightened the two main bolts holding the stand base together, the coating or paint underneath the nut crackled like a piece of cellophane. While yes, I realize I’m going to be shooting at this and having to touch things up, it shouldn’t be a disaster out of the box. The only exceptions are the paddle targets that I EXPECT to shoot - they are painted immaculately.
2. The center plate the arms attach to was welded to the main shaft sloppily, with weld splatter all over that was not cleaned off before painting or coating. There is nothing protecting the center hardware or the sloppy weld from bullet impacts.
3. The springs that hold the plats to the arms had a plasti-dip type coating on the ends to prevent fingers from getting torn up when you are resetting plates. Almost every one fell off during installation and will not stay on. The springs, while retaining well, could be designed better with a loop or paddle at the end instead of just having the straight piece.
4. The bottom center piece of the stand is designed with two screw fasteners that hold the main body/post in place. According to the instruction diagrams, they are designed so that one is on the side and one is on the rear so that it’s not in the direct line of fire. However, the way the part was manufactured, the hole was tapped on the front, not the rear, exposing it directly to fire. And no, I can’t just reverse the part because it shifts the center post location and, ultimately the balance of the whole unit.
I’m not sure if I’m sending this back or not. I want to like it, but if I saw all this just on assembly, I wonder how happy I'm going to be with it in a couple of years.

Everyone likes when I bring it to the club for our matches. They call it the DEATH star since I added the second Texas Star to it. It’s pretty easy to put the plates back on compared to other Texas Stars, even the ladies in our club are able to reset it.
It was very easy and straight forward to set up and assemble. They work absolutely perfectly. You will not be disappointed.
Maybe they will come out with a 22 version or a mini Texas Star, hint hint…..
We will stay KRATE users over here!
